On December 2, Wuhan University held the Science and Technology Conference. The theme of the conference is: Guided by the guidelines of important speech of General Secretary Xi Jinping, we should make concerted efforts and comprehensive plan to set the world's scientific and technological front, the economy battlefield, the major needs of the country, and people's life and health as the direction of scientific and technological innovation. It’s our mission to take the initiative to cater to the national strategic goals and tasks, to strive to become an important member of the national strategic scientific and technological forces through the construction of world-class research universities, and to take up the mission of scientific and technological self-reliance and self-improvement. Participants included Han Jin, the Party Committee Secretary of WUH, Dou Xiankang, the President of WHU, Academician Li Deren, Academician Zhu Yuxian, Academician Zhou Xiang and Academician Song Baoliang. Vice President Wu Ping presided over the meeting.

President Dou Xiankang pointed out that academic development and scientific and technological innovation are important responsibilities of high-level research-oriented universities. In the next 5 to 15 years, following Xi Jinping's Thought of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for the New Era, WHU will consciously fulfill its mission to achieve self-reliance and self-improvement in high-level science and technology, actively participate in the construction of national strategic scientific and technological forces, and achieve high-quality development of science and technology of WHU.

The Vice President Li Jiancheng delivered the main report. The scientific and technological work of WHU since the 13th Five-Year Plan was reviewed and summarized. The participants discussed in groups around the main theme of the conference and formed the summary conclusion.

Secretary Han Jin made a concluding speech. He pointed out our staff, students and scientific workers should continuously improve the capability to support national strategies and solve major problems of human survival and development with WHU wisdom and innovation. We should bring the role of national strategic science and technology forces into full play, achieve high-level self-sufficiency and self-improvement in science and technology, and make new and greater contribution to achieve the Two Centenary Goals and the great rejuvenation of China.
