On May 21, the Belt and Road International Summit Forum on the Innovative Development of Hospitals was held in Guangzhou. Professor Lin Jun, the Vice Dean of Zhongnan Hospital, and Professor Zhao Qiu, the Director of Gastroenterology Department in Zhongnan Hospital, were invited to attend the summit and share the cooperation between Gastroenterology Department of Zhongnan Hospital and Endoscopy and Gastroenterology Team in Egyptian Medical Association. The two sides have been working closely and jointly hold the Egyptian Digestive Disease Week (EDDW) for three consecutive years.
The conference focused on the international cooperation policies of the Belt and Road and the three-year implementation plan of the Belt and Road put forward by the National Health Commission. Topics such as innovative management of hospitals, key discipline development, the application of medical achievements, the construction of integration centers of diagnosis and treatment. China also shared the experience of cooperation with countries along the Belt and Road.
Lin Jun pointed out that in order to thoroughly implement the concept of Silk Road of Health proposed by President Xi Jinping and the deliverables of the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, and promote health cooperation between Chinese medical institutions and roadside countries, Zhongnan Hospital has consistently implemented the Belt and Road initiative and a lot of long-lasting cases of friendship in cultural exchanges and academic sharing keep cropping up in recent years. China-Egypt academic exchanges on digestive diseases also gained support and guidance from the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, which greatly promotes the bilateral medical cooperation.
Professor Zhao Qiu pointed out that a consensus with the Egyptian side has been made to maintain long-term and in-depth cooperation, strengthen exchanges in the field of digestive diseases, which will benefit more patients in China, Africa, and the roadside countries. Thus, a community with a shared future for mankind in the post-pandemic era can be built at an early date.
