On June 10, shortly after the Children's Day, the party committee of Wuhan University School of Basic Medical Sciences organized the pathogenic biology party branch of the college and some party members to deliver a "happy science class" to the students in the Central Primary School of Jinling Demonstration Area of Dawu County, the old revolutionary base area in northern Hubei Province. Associate Professor Feng Yong from the Department of Pathology introduced bacteria, viruses, fungi and other microorganisms, and also explained the invisible science to them. Children found that what is happening around them is closely related with science. If they are careful enough and be good at summarizing, they could discover the secrets of science.
Teachers also offered nearly 100 books on popular science and children's literature to those kids, encouraging them to observe and think, to find the fun and significance of science. They wished the kids to study hard and lay a good foundation, thus they could grow up to contribute to national prosperity, social progress and rural revitalization.
Dawu County is the traditional revolution base area and the core area of the Hubei, Henan and Anhui Revolutionary Base Area. Party and state leaders including Zhou Enlai, Dong Biwu, Li Xiannian, Xu Xiangqian and so on once fought here. It was also the birth place of state-founding general Xu Haidong, who commanded numerous battles in Northern Expedition, Agrarian Revolution and Anti-Japanese War and often won by surprise. General Xu Haidong's clansmen and relatives also took an active part in the revolution, and the number of martyrs reached more than 60.
The teachers also visited the Martyr Memorial Hall of General Xu Haidong and his relatives to study the heroic and fierce revolutionary experience under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, thus deepened the understanding of the Party oath.
