On April 3, the Wuhan Research Center for Infectious Diseases and Tumors of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences was officially established in Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University. Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Engineering, President of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences Wang Chen and President of Zhongnan Hospital Wang Xinghuan attended the signing ceremony.
At the signing meeting, Wang Chen said that the current prevention and control of the coronavirus pneumonia epidemic has achieved remarkable results. In the case of insufficient knowledge of the coronavirus and inadequate knowledge of the spreading rules, we should keep vigilant of whether there will be a second wave of epidemic or rebound.
"Some countries in the West have adopted a 'group immunization' strategy, at the expense of the lives of the elderly and frail, in exchange for the rise in overall immunity. China places the people's life and health first, and spares no effort to treat every member. Wang Chen said that Europe and the United States may have a higher crowd immunity through the “baptism” of the epidemic, but China may face a passive situation by then.
How to deal with the new problems brought about by the change of epidemic situation? Wang Chen said that all regions, especially key places, should conduct population epidemiological investigation through nucleic acid and serum antibody detection. Asymptomatic infections can be found through nucleic acid detection, and the immune level of the population can be reflected through antibody detection. The combination of the two can get a scientific assessment of the virus transmission law and the trend of the epidemic situation, which is of great significance to the prevention and control of the epidemic situation.
"The core factor affecting whether the epidemic can be overcome in the future is science and technology." Wang Chen said that Wuhan is most affected by the epidemic and should have its place in the national medical technology innovation system. The Wuhan Research Center for Infectious Diseases and Tumors of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences is part of the plan to promote a more complete national medical science and technology innovation system.
