Initiated by Wuhan University, Wuhan University Alumni Association of Greater New York, and American Chinese United Care (ACUC) Alliance, an online video conference between New York Hospitals and Wuhan University on fighting against COVID-19 was successful completed on the evening of April 16th. American attendees include over thirty doctors and hospital supervisors from Orange Regional Medical Center, Yale New Haven Health System, Greenwich Hospital, Northwell Health System, Lenox Hill Hospital, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and Westchester Medical Center.
The representative leaders from Wuhan University are Professor Tang Qizhu who is the vice president of WHU, dean of School of Medicine, and Prof. Yu Baoping, vice-dean of School of Medicine. There were approximately 20 experts sharing experience and exchanging ideas over the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of COVID-19, including Professor Wei Jie, director of both the Emergency Department and the Department of Critical Care Medicine of Wuhan University Renmin Hospital, Professor Yu Zhui, deputy director of the Department of Critical Care Medicine of Wuhan University Remind Hospital and Professor Wan Jing, deputy director of the Department of Cardiology in Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University. The online meeting was chaired by Mr. Mao Xuejun, president of Wuhan University Alumni Association of Greater New York.
At the teleconference, Prof. Tang Qizhu demonstrated the great work conducted by Wuhan University in many aspects such as medical care and scientific research by making full use of interdisciplinary advantages and the resources from its affiliated hospitals. Ms. Victoria Alberto, founder and board member of ACUC Alliance, reported the efforts they have made during the pandemic outbreak. Mr. Brian TEW, chief executive officer of Orange Regional Medical Center, expressed his gratitude to the leaders and experts of Wuhan University for their valuable experience in fighting against COVID-19 shared with the New York medical stuff serving on the front line.
The two keynote speeches concerning “the effective treatments for critical condition COVID-19 patients” and “the notes on how to save COVID-19 patients with myocardial infarction” are made respectively by Prof. Yu Zhui and Prof. Wan Jing. Later, American counterparts raised many questions, all of which has received a detailed response made by Chinese medical experts, such as Prof. Wei Jie, Prof. Chen Xueqin from Respiratory Medicine, Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, Prof. Chen Xiaobei, director of Infectious Disease Department of East Hospital of Wuhan University Renmin Hospital, Prof. Wang Huiling, vice director of Mental Health Center, Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, and Associate Professor An Ping from Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University.
The scheduled two-hour teleconference finally lasted for two and a half hours, because of such a heated interaction between Chinese scholars and American medical stuff, and it was proposed to make continuous discussions after the online meeting. The whole webinar was recorded by the Orange Regional Medical Center and the video will be available to medical workers in the New York City.
