Recently, the Ministry of Education held a symposium to study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speeches at the congress of academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the 10th National Congress of the China Association for Science and Technology and the speech made during his visit to Tsinghua University, and to conduct research and deployment on the work of science and technology in universities. On behalf of Wuhan University, the Vice President Tang Qizhu attended the conference and delivered a speech entitled Promoting originality with Extraordinary Measures.
Tang Qizhu shared the experience of enhancing innovation-driven development of WHU from three aspects: strengthening WHU with talents, optimizing the strategic layout of disciplines and supporting the national strategic scientific and technological strength. As a high-level research-oriented university, WHU should be brave enough to shoulder the mission of promoting national science and technology strength and enhance its originality with extraordinary measures.
First, we will make long-term efforts. We will continue to promote the strategy of strengthening the university by talents at a higher level, pay attention to selecting leading academic talents and young academic talents, and coordinate resources to support high-level talent teams.
Second, we will optimize the strategic layout of disciplines, build a first-class discipline system, implement the national overall plan and reform spirit of building double first-class disciplines, and deepen the efforts to build world-class disciplines. We will innovate the mechanism of discipline development and vigorously promote the integration of disciplines.
Third, we will focus on the national strategy for scientific and technological development and support the country's strategic scientific and technological strength. We will gather high-end innovation resources, adjust strategic positioning and research orientation in line with the major national strategies, strengthen strategic cooperation with enterprises, deepen institutional reform, and build the state key laboratories into strategic scientific and technological forces serving national needs.
